On Tuesday afternoon, the hill in Colonia Amapas in the Playa Los Muertos area with a construction site on it collapsed, apparently from a combination of workers taking out too much of the hill, and the large amount of rain that has fallen in recent days. The construction site of the Serena building had been closed, but there had been work on it in the last few days.

A report made to 911 indicated that a sinkhole had been noticed on Santa Bárbara Street. When Municipal Police officers arrived, they closed off Santa Bárbara Street, realizing that it was not just a sinkhole, but that the hill was collapsing. They requested support from Civil Protection and Firefighters.

Santa Bárbara Street is now completely gone, and the foundation of a building next to the construction site is on the edge of collapse. Cracks have been reported in other neighboring buildings, and torn water and sewage pipes have burst, creating waterfalls that add to the instability.

No injuries or casualties have been reported.

Civil Protection personnel requested the support of Transit and the Police to evacuate people, and not allow access to the area, because there was a risk that it would continue to collapse.
