Six members of the Mexican Army were killed and two others seriously injured when a landmine exploded along a remote dirt road near the border between Jalisco and Michoacán.
According to reports from Milenio, the blast occurred in a mountainous area where criminal groups—specifically the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and Los Reyes—are reportedly engaged in a violent territorial dispute.
The soldiers were on a reconnaissance mission as part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region. The explosion was triggered as their military vehicle passed over the device, killing six soldiers instantly. The two survivors were airlifted to a nearby hospital and are in serious condition.
President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to the attack, expressing her condolences and reaffirming her administration’s commitment to improving national security.
“It’s very regrettable that this happened—the use of explosive devices. Our solidarity, affection, and full support go out to the families of the National Guard. Very important work is being done on security,” she said.
Sheinbaum did not name any specific criminal group as responsible for the attack but emphasized that the Security Cabinet continues to work to reduce violence throughout the country.
