Personnel from the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) intercepted and secured a boat that had more than a ton and a half of cocaine in the Municipality of Aquila, Michoacán.
Semar said that, in addition to the drug, they seized around 432 liters of fuel and other effects. Although the three suspects escaped at first, they were later arrested on land.
The Navy indicated that this action derived from field and cabinet work, through which it learned of a probable transfer of illicit cargo, for which various Semar units were deployed by air, sea, and land.
The suspects, when surprised by Semar, increased their speed until they reached the beach, where they escaped. However, Semar was already there waiting for them aboard various vehicles. They arrested the suspects, and seized the boat and the illicit cargo.
Later, it said, another boat with various materials on board was also secured. An MI-17 and a Panther helicopter also participated in this operation, as well as specialized Marine Corps troops.
The operation netted 32 packages of white powder with the characteristics of cocaine, with an approximate total gross weight of 1,600 kilograms; two boats with two and three outboard motors, respectively; various drums, with a total of approximately 432 liters of fuel; and other effects, such as communication equipment – plus the three suspects.
