Personnel from the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) confirmed that final tests began yesterday on the Compostela-Las Varas section, with the aim of making it open to the public this weekend.

This section has had delays, as it was originally reported that it would be ready last December to begin operations in January, a decision that had been postponed.

This road has been under construction for more than 10 years. The first section, the Capomo-La Florida route, opened in December 2022, and spans 23.6 kilometers.

By March 1, 2023, the 30.8-kilometer section from the La Florida Entronque to the La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Entronque was put into operation. This allowed travelers to save 40 minutes on the journey.

The missing section was just 32.2 kilometers that frees the area from curves, and reduces the transfer time by another 25 minutes, connecting directly from the San Vicente Junction to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

In total, the entire work will have an investment of 10,601 million pesos and will have a length of 86.6 kilometers for the benefit of 17 communities.

This highway has 45 bridges, 7 interchanges, 3 tunnels, and 3 viaducts through which it is expected that 6,000 vehicles will drive daily.

The saving time on the route will be between 60 and 80 minutes.
