Frustrated over unpaid compensation, local landowners and ejidatarios are planning a protest this Wednesday, April 23, at 8:30 a.m. The demonstration will take place on the median strip of Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue, near the curve between the Puerto Vallarta Airport and Las Juntas, where the new Puerto Vallarta–Guadalajara highway connects with the city.
The protest was announced through messages circulating among ejidatario groups in Ixtapa, calling members to gather at 7:30 a.m. at the ejido house before heading to the protest site.
The message reads:
“We are calling for unity. It’s time to act and demand the compensation that is rightfully ours. Despite repeated promises, payments have not been made. We urge all ejidatarios and affected landowners to join the demonstration and spread the word. The more people show up, the stronger our message. Families are welcome, and we will be joined by ejidos from Guayabo, Colesio, and San José.”
According to organizers, approximately 300 million pesos have been owed since 2014 to small landowners and ejidatarios from several communities impacted by the highway construction, including Ixtapa, San José del Valle, El Colesio, El Guayabo, and Las Juntas.
A representative from the Ixtapa commissariat clarified that the protest is not intended to block traffic—especially important during the ongoing holiday period—but will instead be a peaceful demonstration along the boulevard’s median to avoid disrupting travel.
Residents and landowners say the highway’s construction has brought disruption without fair compensation, and they hope the protest will prompt long-overdue action from authorities.
