Puerto Vallarta saw a tragic turn over the long weekend as two tourists drowned in separate incidents while beaches remained under red flag warnings.
According to Civil Protection, both accidents occurred on Sunday, March 16. The first incident was reported at 2:50 p.m. at Punta Negra Beach, where a 46-year-old man from Chapala was pulled from the water. Despite efforts by municipal rescue teams to revive him with CPR, he did not survive.
The second incident took place at 4:50 p.m. at Playa Esmeralda, where a 56-year-old man from Guadalajara was found unresponsive in the water. Lifeguards performed CPR for 25 minutes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities emphasized that all beaches in Puerto Vallarta had been under red flag warnings since early Sunday due to hazardous conditions. They urged the public to follow lifeguard instructions and respect safety restrictions on Jalisco’s beaches.
