Insecurity, corruption and poverty remain the problems that most plague the citizens of Jalisco.

Of these three issues, the perception of insecurity and corruption has remained on the rise in recent years, according to a comparison of the results of the 2019, 2021 and 2023 editions of the ENCIG.

In 2019, the issue of insecurity and crime registered a perception level of 79.9 percent and, although in 2021 it dropped to 76.0 percent, in 2023 it rose again to 76.9 percent.

“Regarding the perception of the municipal police, 49.81 percent of the population considered that the authority was willing to help, this represented an increase of 6.61 percentage points compared to the result of 2021,” said the Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (IIEG) in an analysis of the ENCIG 2023.

It continued, “On the other hand, 32 percent of the population perceived that the police contributed to generating a feeling of security inside and outside the home. This proportion is lower than that obtained in previous years.”

Meanwhile, the perception of corruption maintained its rising level, going from 55.7 percent in 2019 to 59.4 in 2021. By 2023, it grew to 60.6 percent.

Regarding poverty, it is the only one of the three indicators that registers a decrease in the last two surveys.

In 2019, the perception of poverty in the state was 31.4 percent, and in 2021, it rose to 31.9 percent. However, by 2023, it dropped to 31 percent.

The perception of poor hospital care was 28.9 percent in 2019, while for 2021 it was 23.1 percent, and for 2023 it was 27.2 percent.

ENCIG 2023 was held from October 30 to December 15, 2023, and was presented on March 21, 2024.
