The Jalisco Secretary of Tourism (Secturjal) will invest almost 96 million pesos in Puerto Vallarta for 2023 in four programs:
- Promotion of Beach Tourism,
- Maritime Connectivity Model,
- Tourist Academy, and
- Tourist Tours.
At a press conference, the head of the agency, Vanessa Pérez Lamas, explained that the largest investment will be to continue with the work of the Jalisco Coast Maritime Connectivity Model, to which 70 million pesos will be invested in the work on the Boca de Tomatlán pier, which is already in progress.
She said, “It was a historical investment to redo the Boca de Tomatlan pier, and some others, for example, Playa Los Muertos, which, although it does not have to be redone, does need attention. The Los Muertos pier is iconic, and it is important to pay attention to it, and we will be doing it this year with this Maritime Connectivity program.”
She explained that the program for the Promotion of Beach Tourism will have an investment of 16 million pesos, and consists of improving the urban image through revitalization and rehabilitation programs for the beaches of Jalisco, as well as improving and expanding the infrastructure and equipment.
An investment of five million pesos will be made for the Tourism Academy program. This has to do with increasing the competitiveness of companies in the tourism sector through a linkage mechanism (government-industry) with instances that operate economic support programs, through:
- consulting: with a multidisciplinary approach,
- project: generate recommendations for its execution,
- implementation: link businesses with public agencies and institutions to carry out the project, and
- follow-up: punctual accompaniment to the implemented actions.
Lastly, the tour program will have an investment of almost 5 million pesos. This program offers a social benefit by giving Jalisco families, whose economy does not allow them to travel for recreational, leisure, or cultural purposes, the possibility of doing so.
Pérez said that 67 million pesos were invested last year in three infrastructure works, money collected from the 3% of the Lodging Tax. They were and they were: Lateral
Francisco Medina Ascencio, Mismaloya’s Carretera Conchas Chinas, and the Salado Estuary (estero).
She said, “This year, the intervention in the Estero El Salado is finished. We are going to have some adaptations that allow this space to really be that tourist attraction that it should be, that it reaches the capacity that it should reach.”
