The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) will return some brands of cheese to the Mexican market, after announcing two days ago the removal of products that did not comply with the Official Mexican Standard.

“Once the clarifications have been made, the banned cheeses of Lala, Covadonga, Fud, Zwan, and Caperucita will return to the shelf as soon as administrative formalities are concluded,” confirmed the National Chamber of Milk Industries (Canilec) on its Twitter account.

On October 13th, the Ministry of Economy issued a statement in which it was announced the ban on the sale of 23 brands of cheeses, and two of yogurt for failing to comply with official Mexican regulations, and within the application of the new Quality Infrastructure.

Today the Secretary of Economy, Graciela Márquez Colín pointed out that the meetings between the companies and the head of Profeco, Ricardo Sheffield, as well as the General Director of Standards, Alfonso Guati Rojo, began today. These talks are expected to end next Tuesday.

“Other brands can be brought into compliance in a matter of 3 or 4 days. Not in yoghurt. That will take longer,” said Profeco.
