During the Christmas holidays, Puerto Vallarta’s beaches have faced challenging sea conditions caused by strong winds and high waves. Authorities have raised red flags across several coastal areas, including beaches in the south such as Palmares and Conchas Chinas, central areas like Los Muertos, and the northern hotel zone extending to Marina. These warnings have been in effect since December 24, while some beaches display yellow flags, urging caution for swimmers.

The National Meteorological Service attributes these conditions to a trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere and the subtropical jet stream, resulting in waves reaching heights of two to four meters in the central Mexican Pacific region.

Despite the adverse conditions, maritime activities in Puerto Vallarta have continued with necessary precautions. Lifeguards and Civil Protection personnel have increased surveillance, urging visitors and residents to adhere to flag signals and safety guidelines.

Flag Guidelines for Beachgoers

  • Red Flag: Prohibits entering the water due to dangerous conditions.
  • Yellow Flag: Advises caution while swimming.
  • Green Flag: Signals safe conditions for swimming and water activities.

Beach visitors are reminded to observe the flags, follow lifeguard instructions, and take precautions:

  • Supervise children at all times and do not allow them to enter the water alone.
  • Avoid entering the sea under the influence of alcohol, as it impairs the ability to respond in emergencies.

Local Civil Protection and Lifeguard authorities emphasize the importance of responsibility and caution to ensure post-Christmas and New Year celebrations remain safe for everyone.
