Puerto Vallarta authorities have issued a red flag warning on seven beaches, restricting access to the sea because of dangerous rip currents and high waves.
Municipal lifeguards confirmed Thursday afternoon that the measure remains in effect to protect swimmers. Warning signs have been placed at the affected areas: Palmares, Los Muertos, Burros, Malecón, Camarones, Holi, and Oro beaches.
“The red flag means no entry into the sea,” lifeguards emphasized, urging both residents and tourists to comply with the restrictions. Strong rip currents can pull even experienced swimmers out to sea, while the high surf complicates potential rescue operations.
Beach clubs and restaurants continue to operate normally, but water activities such as jet ski rentals, banana boat rides, and surfing lessons remain suspended. Civil Protection advised visitors to enjoy the sand and ocean views from safe areas and to remain close to lifeguard towers.
Authorities also reminded beachgoers to follow preventive measures: do not leave children unattended, avoid swimming under the influence of alcohol, and remain alert to changing tides. Surveillance will continue at popular tourist beaches, and the red flag status will be lifted once sea conditions improve.
