Puerto Vallarta is experiencing a wave of infrastructure projects designed to improve daily life for residents and strengthen its position as a leading tourist destination. Governor Pablo Lemus and Mayor Luis Munguía highlighted the city’s progress during the annual CANADEVI Jalisco meeting and a tour of key construction sites.
Authorities say the coordinated work across municipal, state, and federal levels is shaping a more modern, connected, and sustainable city.
Among the most notable projects is the Amado Nervo Bridge, currently under construction. Designed with sidewalks and a dedicated bike path, the bridge will connect neighborhoods such as Ixtapa and El Pitillal, making commutes safer and more efficient.
The Las Juntas Interchange, set to open this month, will ease congestion at the northern entrance, where more than 35,000 vehicles pass daily. The project is expected to shorten travel times and improve access to the CUCosta campus, Bahía de Banderas, and regional highways.
Puerto Vallarta is also preparing to launch an Electric Transportation System. A new fleet of eco-friendly buses will operate along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue, offering a faster and cleaner way to move between Ixtapa and downtown.
On the maritime front, the city is expanding with the Las Peñas and Mismaloya piers, along with upgrades to the Los Muertos Pier. These projects aim to improve coastal access for residents and tourists alike.
In the historic center, a facade renovation program will restore Vallarta’s signature white walls and red-tiled roofs. “We want the Puerto Vallarta we knew to shine again,” said Governor Lemus, stressing the importance of heritage in shaping the city’s identity.
Environmental conservation is also part of the agenda. At the El Salado Estuary, officials outlined plans to promote the area as a natural attraction while protecting its mangroves, which play a key role in biodiversity and coastal resilience.
The tour concluded at the southern bay, where construction of the new Mismaloya Pier is underway and the Las Ánimas Pier has been completed.
