Puerto Vallarta’s beach safety infrastructure is set for a major upgrade with the installation of twelve new lifeguard surveillance towers along its coastline from Boca de Tomates to Mismaloya, according to local officials.

Misael López Muro, director of Civil Protection, Firefighters and Lifeguards, explained that the new towers will replace deteriorating structures that have been damaged by exposure to weather conditions, including wind, sun, and humidity. The upgraded towers will provide lifeguards with improved visibility and faster emergency response capabilities.

The enhancement comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure beach safety for both tourists and locals. López Muro emphasized that the watchtowers are crucial for lifeguards, offering both superior vantage points and protection from the elements while monitoring ocean conditions.

Areas requiring particular attention include the popular beaches of Palmares, Los Muertos, Holy, Playa de Oro, and Marina, which experience peak visitor numbers during holiday seasons, especially Easter. The department maintains year-round lifeguard training programs, with increased staffing during high-tourism periods.

López Muro urged beachgoers to heed lifeguard instructions and follow basic safety guidelines:
– Maintain constant supervision of children
– Avoid swimming after consuming alcohol
– Stay away from marked hazard zones

“Prevention remains our most effective tool for ensuring safety at sea,” López Muro stated, highlighting the importance of public cooperation with safety measures.
