Puerto Vallarta is set to celebrate World Theater Day with an exciting lineup of performances and cultural events, organized by the PV Collective of Performing Arts Creators and fully supported by Mayor Luis Munguía González’s administration. This initiative not only honors theatrical arts but also highlights the unity and creativity of the city’s performing arts community.
The festivities begin on March 27 at 8:00 pm with a special performance of This Was a King at the Cuale Cultural Center auditorium. Directed by Alberto Fabián Sahagún Orozco, this free-admission play offers a unique adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear, blending fiction with personal experiences to create a deeply emotional and intimate narrative.
The celebration continues with a diverse range of performances and discussions. Highlights include Al Aire Lola!, Chingue a su Madre el Minimo, and Que no se culpe a nadie de mi muerte. Additionally, theater enthusiasts can attend a conference on the History of Theater in Jalisco and experience the innovative collective production Teatro en Versiones. These events will take place from March 27 to 29 at key venues such as Plataforma 322 and El Rey de Oros, showcasing the collaboration of various independent theater companies.
Juan Pablo Hernández, president of the PV Collective of Performing Arts Creators, expressed excitement about this event, marking the collective’s first official project and a significant step in revitalizing Vallarta’s theater scene.
Vice President Soledad García emphasized the importance of creating sustainable conditions for the performing arts. “We aim to establish more cultural spaces and advocate for long-term cultural policies,” she stated. These efforts have gained strong backing from María Laurel Carrillo, councilor and president of the City Council Commission for Culture and Cultural Rights, and Miguel Arturo Meza, deputy director of Economic Promotion and Tourism. Both officials highlighted the role of arts and culture in enhancing tourism and shaping Puerto Vallarta’s identity.
