Captain Enrique Alejandro Tron, General Director of Aerotrónsaid that Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit have become expensive destinations compared to others, in terms of their hotel rates, transportation, and services.

He said that both destinations benefited greatly during the pandemic because many of the Americans, foreigners, and Canadians who have a second home here came to stay for a year or more.

They found a destination that was overall healthy, calm, and interesting, plus other places were closed, like Europe or the Bahamas, for example.

But now that the rest of the world has opened up, millions of tourists are traveling to those places, and that has brought greater competition to Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit. In this third year after the pandemic, the influx of tourists has decreased.

He said, “You go to Europe or Croatia, it is much cheaper to eat, transportation, taxis, hotels of equal quality, and they are offering fair competition, where I think we are expensive, and we believe that we are the friendliest city in the world. But we are no longer. In traffic we see it, everyone driving as if they are going to collect inheritance. We are aggressive in our driving, we are not very cordial, and we do not let a tourist who is in the median pass.”

Therefore, combined with the expensive rates and the offers from other parts of the world, Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit will have lower tourism than before.

He continued, “We have to analyze ourselves as a destination, look inward to see if we are expensive in rates, in service, poorly served because we are aggressive in our way of driving. We have to analyze this situation, and to say if we are going well or if we are going badly.”
