Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González has announced a redesign project for the city’s historic center, including modifications to public transportation routes. The initiative, approved by the City Council, aims to ease congestion and improve mobility while preserving the downtown area’s character.
“We are taking a comprehensive approach to revitalizing the Historic Center, which naturally includes public transportation. A strategy is needed to reduce congestion on the limited roads in the area. We also want to improve how both residents and visitors navigate the center,” said Munguía.
The mayor emphasized the challenges of downtown access, noting the limited entry points—such as the Par Vial, Medina Ascencio Avenue, and Mexico Street, which loops around Hidalgo Park. Any mobility improvements must take these constraints into account.
To implement the plan, the city will coordinate with the State Government to evaluate changes to bus routes, potentially rerouting or reducing traffic in the city center. The redesign process will involve public consultations to ensure community input.
Additionally, Munguía confirmed plans to renovate Cuale Island, further supporting efforts to revitalize the area.
