In response to rising water demand across the city, Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González has announced eight new infrastructure projects aimed at increasing the local water supply. Together, the initiatives are expected to add up to 100 liters per second to the city’s current water output, improving access for residents and businesses alike.
“I’ve just given the order to move forward with at least eight strategic projects to ensure we have significantly more access to this vital resource,” said Mayor Munguía. The plan includes re-drilling several existing wells and drilling a new one in the Ixtapa area. A key part of the effort also involves upgrading the filter galleries along the Ameca River, a system the mayor believes will be central to achieving the 100 l/s goal.
The city is investing approximately 60 million pesos in the projects. Part of this funding will go toward advanced equipment, including turbobordices—technology designed to help transport water efficiently to the radial well, even under challenging seasonal conditions.
According to municipal officials, the bidding and assignment processes for the projects are set to begin soon. These next steps will determine construction timelines and help keep the initiatives on track for delivery.
The city government says the projects are part of a broader plan to modernize and safeguard Puerto Vallarta’s water infrastructure. As the population continues to grow, ensuring a consistent and dependable water supply remains a top priority. City leaders hope these upgrades will give residents greater peace of mind and prepare the city for future needs.
