Puerto Vallarta authorities have enforced 26 closures on real estate developments and restaurants due to alleged environmental violations, according to Mariana Boy Tomborell, head of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa).

Following the recent shutdown of three developments in the city, Boy Tomborell revealed that under the previous administration, the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office conducted 48 inspections:

  • 40 targeting real estate developments
  • 1 focusing on a restaurant

As a result:

  • 26 closures remain in effect
  • 9 summonses were issued
  • 5 cases await summonses
  • 34 cases have been fully resolved

In six instances, security measures were breached. Profepa has referred these cases to the Attorney General’s Office, but four were dismissed due to a lack of federal jurisdiction.

Since the start of the new administration, Profepa has conducted 18 additional inspections—eight at real estate developments and five at restaurants. The agency has also strengthened collaboration with municipal and state authorities, as well as environmental organizations, to enhance oversight.

As part of these efforts, a large-scale inspection operation was launched on February 25 and remains ongoing.

Profepa officials reaffirmed their commitment to upholding federal environmental laws and ensuring that both residential and commercial properties adhere to regulations. Further updates on closures and new enforcement actions will be provided as the operation continues.
