In response to growing concerns about public safety, Puerto Vallarta has ramped up its police presence in key areas across the city. Municipal authorities have intensified patrols along the Malecón, in the Zona Romántica, and throughout several high-crime neighborhoods, aiming to provide a greater sense of security for both residents and visitors.
The city’s Tactical Operations unit, now back in action after updated training in de-escalation and emergency response, is working in coordination with state and federal agencies. Officers are equipped with GPS tracking and body cameras, allowing for real-time communication and rapid response. Since early May, this coordinated approach has reportedly reduced emergency response times by 30 percent.
Patrols are particularly visible along the Malecón, where officers are on foot throughout the day, interacting with vendors and tourists. In the Zona Romántica, uniformed officers maintain a strong presence outside bars, restaurants, and on side streets known for nightlife. Business owners in these areas have reported fewer incidents of harassment and theft, and tourists say they feel more comfortable walking the streets after dark.
In neighborhoods like Lázaro Cárdenas (Pitillal) and Emiliano Zapata, officers conduct rotating vehicle and foot patrols through residential streets. Locals have noticed more community-focused policing, with officers taking time to speak with residents and offer safety tips.
Under Commissioner Eduardo Horacio Llanas Cuevas, patrol schedules are updated daily based on citizen feedback, emergency calls, and social media alerts. Shopping centers such as Plaza Caracol and Marina Vallarta are also under increased surveillance.
To further strengthen ties with the community, the department will host safety fairs and workshops next month, and launch a mobile app for reporting tips and accessing safety alerts. So far, the increased police presence has been well received, with residents and business owners expressing optimism about the city’s efforts to improve public safety.
