A national march against animal abuse will take place in Puerto Vallarta and other parts of the country on Sunday, June 25, at 11 am. The objective of this demonstration is to demand from the three levels of government the effective application of existing laws to protect all animals, both wild, domestic, and farm.
Mónica Díaz from Sociedad Animal AC said, “We will start at Parque Hidalgo, and end at Arcos del Malecón. If you want to support us, don’t bring animals.”
She added, “There has already been a setback in some municipalities, everything that had been advanced in previous administrations. This is non-partisan, but we cannot deny what we see. Progress had been made. Care was taken for the animals for adoption, and they have already returned to the slaughter.”
In the case of Puerto Vallarta, Díaz said that the municipal government has partially continued the programs that had been established in other administrations.
“It is half continuity,” she said. “After 4 pm, when the bureaucratic hours end, we do not know what happens with the complaints that are made after that time. That was the difference with other administrations, what happens with the animals that need veterinary care or need to be confiscated.”
Therefore, one of the requests is that there be staff on duty available.
“We as the Animal Society, when Mayor Michel was a candidate, we made a request to give continuity to everything that had already been achieved, and to provide more human, economic, and facility resources. We see that there is continuity, but he has not complied 100 percent. We have approached him to work together with Animal Welfare, but we feel that the doors are closed to us. We don’t know if it is only with us or with all the citizens.”
