A group of citizens and social organizations in the region are calling for a protest march today against mandatory vehicular verification (emission control testing). The meeting point will be in the parking lot at the intersection of Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard and Prisciliano Avenue at 5 pm, then heading for the malecón.

Rafael Benavente is one of the activists who oppose the application of the Responsible Vehicle Verification program, which the state government implemented in Puerto Vallarta and neighboring municipalities as of April 1, whose facilities are located on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue #4774 -A in the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood.

Benavente said, “The air quality in Vallarta is optimal. According to studies carried out by the University Center of the Coast, there are no pollutants in the air here. There are mountains, beaches… so we are not going to allow the imposition of our Governor Enrique Alfaro.”

Jesús García Blake, on behalf of the Vallarta chapter of the National Water and Life Coordination AC, indicated that this money-collection measure is abusive, affecting the economy of families and businesses. He said that Alfaro should fix the streets and improve public transport before implementing this program.

García said, “There are people who will walk with us. In fact, we invite people who do not bring vehicles to wait for us on the malecón, where we are going to stop. We require the support of the whole town, to the population in general, including Uber and InDriver drivers, and taxis, because the economy is going to hurt all of us.”

“This movement is already in all of Jalisco, against the governor’s imposition… Don’t cry tomorrow for the action you don’t do today,” he stressed.
