Jalisco’s Ministry of Tourism has announced the project “Universal Accessibility in Pueblos Magicos of Jalisco,“ which seeks to understand accessibility challenges for people with disabilities and the elderly in Jalisco’s Magical Towns have, as well as to propose a series of upgrades to guarantee compliance with the official technical standards in the field of universal accessibility.
For this purpose, public servants have made visits to the municipalities that are designated Pueblos Magicos in order to build groups made up of people with disabilities, architects, representatives of the city councils, and the state agencies involved, in order to analyze various aspects, such as architectural properties, avenues, open spaces, signage, parking issues, public transport units, as well as the generalized attitudes around the disability.
As a result of these visits, 31 diagnoses were generated in which, in addition to the identification of areas for improvement, upgrade proposals have been included to guarantee compliance with the official technical standards on universal accessibility.
Likewise, thanks to the participation of representatives of ten civil organizations that serve people with intellectual, motor, visual, psychosocial, auditory, and multiple disabilities, it was possible to generate a Manual with Guidelines for the Attention of Tourists with Disabilities.
Ajijic in the Municipality of Chapala, was recently named a Pueblo Magico.
