Over 200 U.S. citizens living in Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay gathered on Saturday, June 14, for a peaceful protest against former U.S. President Donald Trump, denouncing what they view as a growing authoritarian threat to American democracy.

The demonstration, part of the international “No US Kings Day” movement, was organized by the Democrats Abroad Costa Banderas chapter. The event took place on Cuale River Island, where participants assembled with signs bearing messages like “We are human,” “Justice and freedom for all,” “Trump is cruel, illegal, and extreme,” “You are not the king,” and “Dictator.”

The protest began just before noon and concluded around 1:30 p.m., drawing attention from passersby and sparking conversations among the expat community.

“No US Kings Day” is a global initiative aimed at defending democratic values and raising awareness about the potential dangers of political power becoming overly concentrated—something organizers fear could happen under Trump’s influence.

Many attendees took the opportunity to express appreciation for life in Puerto Vallarta, praising the peace, safety, and welcoming nature of the city. For Dave Dam, a part-time resident from Los Angeles, the protest was personal. “What’s happening with Trump is extreme,” he said. “It’s dividing families. Children are being left without their parents.”

The demonstration added Puerto Vallarta’s voice to a larger international outcry, highlighting how political developments in the U.S. are resonating far beyond its borders.
