The Jalisco state government has launched a new vehicle license plate program this February, introducing the “Cabañas” design alongside the existing “Collage” plates. Both plate designs comply with federal regulation NOM-001-SCT-2-2016, and all vehicles registered in Jalisco must display one of these plates by 2026 to operate legally.
The new plates feature enhanced security measures, including improved visibility and durability, plus a QR code in the upper right corner that protects owner information.
To obtain new plates, vehicle owners must:
1. Pay the 900-peso vehicle renewal fee at refrendo.jalisco.gob.mx
2. Schedule and complete a responsible verification appointment
3. Make a plate replacement appointment at sefinenlinea.jalisco.gob.mx/agendarecaudadora/agenda.aspx
For February and March, the replacement schedule prioritizes vehicles with license plates ending in 1. To collect the new plates and circulation card, owners must bring:
– 2025 responsible verification certificate
– Current license plates
– Proof of address (less than 3 months old)
– Valid official identification
Collection offices can process up to 400 appointments daily, with each transaction taking approximately 10 minutes under normal circumstances. While the program runs throughout 2025, the government encourages motorists to complete the process early and monitor their designated replacement dates.
