Puerto Vallarta is set to celebrate the Day of the Dead with the inaugural edition of the “Remember Me” festival from October 31 to November 3, featuring a stunning 28-meter-high monumental catrina, officials announced at a press conference.
The festival will take place along the iconic boardwalk, the city center, and across the four municipal delegations. In addition to the towering catrina, which will be joined by a mascot this year, visitors can expect a vibrant array of altars, monumental skulls, and artistic displays. The event will culminate in a grand parade on November 2, with at least 30 groups participating.
Magaly Fregoso Ortiz, coordinator of the “Remember Me” festival, emphasized the collaborative nature of the event, despite budget limitations. Multiple city departments, including the Vallarta Institute of Culture and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion Trust, have pooled resources to bring the festival to life. “We are proud to present this 100 percent collaborative project, with the goal of keeping the tradition of the Day of the Dead alive,” Fregoso said.
Throughout the four-day festival, activities will be held on the boardwalk, in the city center, and in local cemeteries, ensuring a deep connection to the cultural heritage of the event.
Tourism Director Alejandra Cornejo noted that the festival’s aim is to honor the memory of loved ones no longer with us. She highlighted the wide range of artistic expressions and altars that will be on display, many of which are being created by hotels, restaurants, universities, and local businesses.
Luis Villaseñor, director of the Tourism Trust, emphasized that the “Remember Me” festival is expected to enhance the experience for both locals and visitors, positioning Puerto Vallarta as a top beach destination for Day of the Dead celebrations.
This first edition of the “Remember Me” festival promises to offer a unique and memorable way to honor this cherished tradition.
