Mexicana de Aviación has announced plans to restore service to Puerto Vallarta as part of its comprehensive 2025 Master Plan. The announcement came during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning conference, where airline director Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez outlined the state-owned carrier’s expansion strategy.
The airline, which recently suspended eight routes including Puerto Vallarta, will implement a phased return to key destinations throughout 2025:
– January: Resuming flights to Tulum, Tijuana, Mérida, San José del Cabo, Mazatlán, and Chetumal
– February: Restoring service to Campeche
– April: Launching flights to Puerto Vallarta and Monterrey
– First Half 2025: Adding new routes to Zihuatanejo, Ixtepec, Palenque, and Ciudad Victoria
Addressing recent service suspensions, Ávila Bojórquez explained that route adjustments are typical during low-demand periods. “We made strategic decisions starting on January 6th, based on market dynamics,” he stated.
The airline’s fleet modernization plan includes the integration of five Embraer aircraft throughout 2025, with a complete transition to Embraer planes by December. For Puerto Vallarta specifically, service will begin with Boeing 737 aircraft in April before transitioning to Embraer aircraft in August.
The expansion will ultimately connect 14 destinations across Mexico, reinforcing Mexicana’s commitment to serving major markets and supporting the country’s tourism industry. The return to Puerto Vallarta, a key tourism hub, represents an important step in the airline’s revival strategy.
