Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodriguez announced that he will buy new ambulances, but said that he will check the budget first, so it is in doubt whether the opinion approved by councilors for the acquisition of four ambulances will be complied with.

Meanwhile, after all the ambulances broke down last Tuesday, one was repaired and is the only one providing emergency service.

Michel said, “I need to talk with Gerardo (director of Civil Protection and Firefighters) to see what happened, to see why they failed, if they are going to be bought.”

Michel tried to minimized the situation by pointing out that other health institutions also have ambulances.

He said, “There are other institutions that have ambulances. Civil Protection is always in coordination with hospitals. If the PC (Civil Protection) does not go, another ambulance or the Red Cross will go.”

The Civil Protection and Fire Commission of the Puerto Vallarta City Council approved this Tuesday the purchase of four ambulances and five pick-up vehicles for the agency.
