Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Michel Rodríguez reported that efforts are continuing to carry out the work on the Federation Bridge over the Ameca River as soon as possible.

He said that the Federation Bridge is a necessity for both Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, since it is a joint area, and that the project should have been done already.

He recalled that the federal resources for it to be done had already been earmarked, the states would be contributing more than 60 million pesos, and the municipalities were only going to provide the permits. The work was going to cost about 550 million pesos, and the government of Nayarit was going to administer the resources.

The federal resources never arrived, however, since they were re-allocated to the Guadalajara light rail project, instead.

Michel said, “What we are doing now is once again request it in conjunction with the mayor of Bahía de Banderas. I even intend to go see Nayarit Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, so that we go to Mexico City with Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramirez.”

When asked if Puerto Vallarta could contribute 100 million pesos for this project, as proposed by his Bahía de Banderas counterpart, through public resources and the local private initiative, Michel said, “We will have to meet with the President of the Republic to see how much we have to support.”

Jalisco Governor Alfaro has indicated that the work of the Federation Bridge is a commitment by the federal government, and that the states do not have to contribute resources, since President López Obrador promised that his government would finance the work.
