Yesterday, the leader of the Federation of Unions of Employees at the Service of the Powers of the State, Municipalities and Decentralized Public Bodies of the State in Jalisco (FSESEJ), Isaac Filiberto Sánchez, convened the members of the Union of Public Servants to the Service of the City Council of Puerto Vallarta, where in absentia, they separated their general secretary, Gilberto Lorenzo Rodríguez, from his post, and voted for Lucía Curiel Peña, head of the Finance portfolio, to temporarily confer leadership after the financial scandal facing Lorenzo.
They agreed that, if necessary, they would meet again to ratify her in office within approximately 2 months, when the investigations against Lorenzo, ordered by Pensions of the State of Jalisco (IPEJAL) are carried out.
Lorenzo faces a series of complaints by Mayor Luis Michel for alleged abuse of public resources with an illegal double government salary: as driver “A” of the City Council for 63,284 pesos, plus 4,000 pesos worth of bonds, food, and transportation, as well as his retirement through IPEJAL for 81,605 pesos, totaling 149,479 pesos per month, for which both the mayor and the director of IPEJAL demanded to return millions of pesos, a situation that Sánchez said he was unaware of.
He said, “The situation of his pension and his place here at the City Hall, we know that this is going to make him very busy. I know that he is overwhelmed… what worried us the most were the issues of the workers because we have to continue advancing, we have to reestablish communication with the authority. Thank God today we had the opportunity to meet.”
617 union members registered for the assembly, out of the 1,190 union members, for which a legal quorum was declared. Lorenzo did not attend. They stated that being respectful and showing support and legal backing for Lorenzo, they separated him so that he could occupy his time with the legal and media problem.
Curiel stated that during the period in which she is in charge, she will ensure the interests of all union members and that the general working conditions are met, for which she promised that, starting Tuesday, she will tour all the areas of the city to listen to them.
