Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, took part in the ordinary session of the National Public Security Council, led by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
During the session, 31 governors signed a coordination agreement on security, reaffirming their support for the National Security Strategy. The strategy outlined by Sheinbaum is built on four main pillars:
- Addressing the root causes of insecurity
- Consolidating the National Guard
- Strengthening intelligence to combat organized crime
- Enhancing coordination with federal entities
“The peace that we are all seeking in Jalisco will be achieved with absolute coordination with the Federal Government,” stated Lemus.
Peace Building Program and Crime Reduction
Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Secretary of the Interior, presented the Peace Building program, which aims to provide direct support to communities with high rates of violence in states like Chiapas and Guanajuato.
Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, emphasized that inter-institutional collaboration has been instrumental in reducing high-impact crimes nationwide.
Reactivation of the National Conference of Governors (Conago)
Following the security council meeting, Lemus participated in the reactivation of the National Conference of Governors (Conago) after a three-year hiatus. This platform facilitates dialogue and coordination among Mexico’s 32 state leaders.
At this session, Marina del Pilar Ávila, Governor of Baja California, was appointed as the new president of Conago. Governor Lemus used the opportunity to highlight Jalisco’s role as an economic powerhouse and a leader in technological investment. He also noted the state’s involvement in strategic national projects, such as the Mexico City-Nogales passenger train.
Commitment to the Cleanup of the Lerma-Santiago River
Lemus reiterated his commitment to the cleanup of the Lerma-Santiago River, a multi-state initiative involving five states. This environmental project aims to restore the river’s health and sustainability, underscoring Jalisco’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
Strengthening Federal-State Collaboration
At the end of the sessions, Lemus met with President Claudia Sheinbaum, who announced plans to visit Jalisco soon to solidify agreements aimed at benefiting the people of Jalisco. Through his active participation in these national dialogues, Lemus reinforced Jalisco’s status as a leader in security, economic growth, and sustainability.
