Plans for a new specialized Civil Hospital in Puerto Vallarta are advancing through collaborative efforts between the Jalisco government and the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), with construction potentially beginning in 2026. Governor Pablo Lemus announced the project carries an estimated investment of 400 million pesos.

The proposed facility would serve as both a teaching hospital for university students and a major medical center for the region. Plans call for the hospital to be built on Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta) property, featuring state-of-the-art operating rooms and an intensive care unit with 250-300 bed capacity.

During his Puerto Vallarta visit this week, Governor Lemus confirmed ongoing project development in coordination with UdeG’s new rector, Karla Planter Pérez. State Health Secretary Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez noted that while the project remains under analysis due to significant investment requirements for construction, equipment, and operations, he recognized the region’s need for advanced medical facilities.

The healthcare initiative also envisions reorganizing the area’s medical services, including the possibility of converting the current Regional Hospital into a specialized maternal-child facility.
