Interim Puerto Vallarta Mayor Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado reported at the monthly meeting of the Coparmex Puerto Vallarta that the state government has not yet officially delivered the opinion about the state of the Municipal Market of the Cuale River. However, he ruled out that it has structural damage.
He said, “There is already an opinion. It has not been officially delivered. I know that there are only some pertinent actions that must be taken. There is no structural damage. The market must be preserved, and that is good news for everything that has happened to us. But the affected area of the market, the corner and part of the retaining wall, will be fixed soon.”
He said that, before the tenants can go back to work there, weekly meetings will be held to learn about the progress. He reiterated that the work must be done as soon as possible, and that they are only waiting for the state resources, and to see what municipal resources they have.
He said, “There are priority issues. The market is one, but the idea is to be able to first connect the communities that are isolated, and that do not have a safe passage over the rivers.”
He said that financial support is already being arranged for the tenants of the market so that it arrives before the 15 days promised by Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez.
Members of this business organization asked the mayor to make sure the residents of Isla del Río Cuale are included in the support, since some do not have a license to operate. There is fear that they will not be able to receive financial aid.
The same is true for other affected tenants who do not have receipts for their merchandise. Faced with this situation, the mayor assured that he was going to attend to them, but made it clear that there are specific specifications to access financial support.
He said that, at the municipal level, he may be able to give those people discounts.
