On the first day of Jalisco’s outreach program in Guadalajara to make drivers more aware of the requirement to have their vehicles tested for harmful emissions, the owners of five vehicles  will have to provide an explanation of how, where, and who issued them a vehicle emission sticker, since they appeared to be fake.

Personnel from the Ministry of the Environment not only handed out information sheets, but also verified whether existing stickers and receipts were valid.

Five drivers were detained along with their vehicles after their stickers were alleged to be fake, and all were made available to the State Attorney General’s Office of the Public Ministry for falsifying official documents, which is a federal crime.
These outreach programs may be implemented in other areas of the state, including random verification of stickers’ legitimacy.
