Biologist Jaime Torres Guerrero, director of the Estero El Salado Natural Protected Area, said that he has already made a tour of the site where the construction of the Distrito Natura subdivision has begun. He said that they have permits. It is private land. He reiterated that these lands are not within the protected area, and said that it will affect the ecological reserve only minimally.

“Yes, we already went to review the work. They have the permits from the municipality for all the activities that they will carry out there. It is not a piece of land that is part of the protected natural area. In fact, it does not adjoin the Estero del Salado Natural Protected Area,” he pointed out.

He added, “It is close to the trust lands. Every work always has effects, but this will only be the minimum.”

Asked whether he agrees with this type of project, he said:

“Their strategy all along was precisely to establish a belt around the protected natural area so that it would function as a buffer area.”

Distrito Natura includes 13 hectares to be developed.
