Given the declaration of emergency issued by the municipalities affected by Hurricane Nora, the General Secretariat of Government and the Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit of the State of Jalisco (UPCBEJ) now have access to the resources of the State Fund Trust for Natural Disasters (FOEDEN).

The secretary of the Social Assistance System (SSAS), Alberto Esquer Gutiérrez, said that, due to the disappearance of FONDEN by the federal government, Jalisco resources will take care of the affected families in coordination with municipal authorities.

Esquer, at the conclusion of a tour of the affected perimeter of around 12 blocks in Puerto Vallarta, said, “We have the instruction of the state governor, that a month will not go by in which we won’t have a response to the affected municipalities from Cihuatlán to Puerto Vallarta, mainly in the damage to homes and the people who live there. Secondly, to have the entire infrastructure to be able to begin with the attention to the damaged shops and businesses.”

The technical committees will begin to carry out their survey and assessment of damages today. This will include public infrastructure, roads and highways, economic damage because of damaged businesses, and assistance to families that suffered losses of their household goods.
