Contrary to scientific evidence and official data, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said that children “fortunately are not affected” by Covid-19.

When talking about the start of the 2020-2021 school year, in a video uploaded to the internet, AMLO said that, although they are not “affected,” children can spread the disease.

“Fortunately, children are not affected by Covid, but they do transmit. They can infect and affect family members,” he said.

According to official data, as of August 22nd, there were 14,799 positive cases of Covid-19 among minors in Mexico, and 211 deaths.
