A massive community cleanup operation at Puerto Vallarta’s Pitillal River has successfully removed nearly 7 tons of trash, marking a significant achievement in local environmental conservation efforts. The initiative brought together hundreds of volunteers under the leadership of Councilor Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, who chairs the Free, Clean, and Certified Beaches Building Committee.
The three-hour campaign drew broad participation from city leadership, including councilors Víctor Bernal Vargas, Marcia Bañuelos, and Dalila Castañeda, alongside representatives from the National and Military Guard, Red Rehabilita, and Red Ambiental, the city’s waste management company. Municipal department directors also joined the effort, demonstrating strong institutional support for environmental preservation.
Volunteers retrieved many items from the river, including abandoned furniture, plastic bags, straws, clothing, and footwear. Bravo Carbajal emphasized that while the cleanup’s success was encouraging, maintaining clean public spaces requires ongoing community involvement and dedication.
The initiative aligns with Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration’s broader environmental goals, focusing on promoting sustainability and environmental awareness throughout Puerto Vallarta. The cleanup serves as part of a larger strategy to protect the region’s natural resources and maintain its ecological balance.
“The municipal government is making significant efforts, but we need the support of every citizen,” Bravo Carbajal noted, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in preserving Puerto Vallarta’s natural environment. Building on this success, organizers are already planning future cleanup events and educational campaigns to maintain momentum in environmental conservation efforts.
