The beginning of the festive period Guadalupe-Reyes has immersed all of Mexico in an atmosphere of joy and celebration, marked by posadas, family gatherings, and festive activities. However, amid the euphoria of these festivities, a growing concern arises among neighbors: excessive noise.

The discomfort caused by loud music, the screams of attendees, bars with high volumes of music, the explosion of fireworks, and the uneasiness of animals due to the noise of rockets have raised a crucial question: Is excessive noise illegal, and what are the consequences?

The Municipal Social Attorney’s Office of Puerto Vallarta has commented on the matter. According to their statements, their mediation service seeks to serve the public, but they emphasize that their methods are based on voluntary cooperation. However, in situations that cause serious damage, they offer to intervene and provide assistance.

Erick Estrada Islas, social attorney, highlighted that the Municipal Ecology regulations prohibit excessive noise, considering it a form of noise pollution. He pointed out that the responsibility for intervening in cases of excessive noise in homes falls on the areas of Public Security or Ecology, who must address the problem of noise pollution.

The municipal police say that excess noise is considered an administrative offense, in accordance with article 25, second section, and can therefore be fined.

The police are the ones to contact for short-term solutions.

(Editor’s note: The church in Mexico is very influential. The police rarely try to stop churches from exploding rockets or blaring loudspeakers.)
