Believing that the use of federal highways, such as the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta Highway and the Macrolibramiento, are too expensive, Governor Enrique Alfaro announced that he will discuss this issue with the Federation in the framework of the discussion of the budget package for 2024.

He said, “It is expensive (the highway to Puerto Vallarta). Very expensive. It is not an issue that corresponds to the State Government (but only to the Federation), but it is an issue that we want to discuss, that specific issue and that of the Macrolibramiento.”

In the case of the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta Highway, the cost at the toll booths exceeds 2,100 pesos (over $100 USD) for a round trip for a car.

Others have pointed out that, if the Macrolibramiento rates were reduced, the number of users would increase, and this would help relieve some metropolitan arteries, such as Avenida López Mateos.
