Surprisingly, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramirez came to Puerto Vallarta on Thursday to deliver the remodeled El Salado estuary, in which 34 million pesos were invested.
Alfaro, without invited press, inaugurated this work that had had delays, but it will open its doors in the coming months.
“We send a strong message: the commitment to the environment in the Jalisco government is firm. Here we are not thinking about the grid or the next elections. Here we are thinking about future generations, about what we are going to leave to our children, our grandchildren. We are not going to slow down. The environmental commitment is proof of everything, and with facts we are demonstrating that this is the correct path,” he said.
He added that this intervention project had the endorsement of public consultation with
people, researchers, and specialists in environmental matters, giving the consensus that allowed the protected area to be expanded from 169 to 209 hectares.
He recalled that the rescue project began in 2021 with the aim of preserving, maintaining, and improving the service conditions provided, thanks to better accessibility and security, without putting single hectare at risk.
José Maria Goya Carmona, general director of Architecture and Urbanism said that the investment was 34 million pesos in a multi-year scheme, which was allocated to the entrance area, square and information module, trails and piers, sighting tower, service walkway, signage, warehouse, nursery, and bathrooms.
El Salado is considered an urban estuary, connected to the ocean by a permanent mouth. It has been a Municipal protected area since 2000 under the Ecological Conservation Zone (ZCE).
