As the Day of the Dead approaches, the Municipal Public Services of Puerto Vallarta has announced that alcohol and weapons will be strictly prohibited in cemeteries during the celebrations on November 1 and 2. This decision, according to Javier Navarro, director of Municipal Public Services, is part of efforts to ensure a safe and respectful environment for families visiting to honor their loved ones.

However, it remains undecided whether musicians and bands will be allowed into the cemeteries during the festivities. Navarro stated that this will be reviewed in the final planning meeting, as they aim to balance tradition with maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. “There are customs that, when done right, can be enjoyable. If we find that balance, we might allow it,” Navarro explained.

In preparation for the holiday, the city’s cemeteries are undergoing intensive maintenance. Juan Rincón, head of cemeteries, is leading the efforts to ensure the sites are clean and welcoming for visitors. Navarro emphasized, “We are working to ensure families have a positive experience when visiting the resting places of their loved ones.”

In coordination with various municipal departments, including Civil Protection, Public Lighting, Parks and Gardens, and Public Works, inspections have been conducted to identify and address the needs of each cemetery. There will also be ongoing cleaning efforts in the five main cemeteries, with staff assigned to monitor the sale of goods in surrounding areas.

Navarro urged citizens to respect the rules, avoiding bringing sharp objects, weapons, or alcoholic beverages, and to contribute to a respectful and harmonious environment. “This is a very important date for all Mexicans, and we want it to be a pleasant event for everyone,” he concluded.
