The 2025 Single Flood Map (MUI) has achieved remarkable public engagement, surpassing 2 million views since its integration with Google Maps. This innovative digital tool, developed by the Institute of Planning and Development Management of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (Imeplan), provides residents with crucial, real-time flood risk information.

The platform features a detailed Recurring Flood Site (SRI) database, documenting areas where Civil Protection and Firefighting Units have recorded at least five flooding incidents over recent years. This historical data provides users with evidence-based flood risk assessments for their communities.

The map employs a sophisticated classification system that categorizes flood risk sites as high, medium, or low priority. This classification considers multiple factors including flood frequency, maximum water levels recorded, and potential impact on local population and critical infrastructure. The assessment was developed through collaboration with nine metropolitan municipalities and Imeplan’s specialized technical teams.

Since its initial launch in 2019, the flood map has undergone continuous improvements. The 2025 version represents a significant milestone with its seamless Google Maps integration, making flood risk information more accessible than ever before.

The current iteration includes enhanced identification of Recurring Flood Sites (SRI) affecting roads, overpasses, public transit stations, and residential neighborhoods. These improvements enable residents to make informed decisions about route planning and risk mitigation during the rainy season.

The consultation platform extends beyond the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, incorporating flood risk data from municipalities including Cocula, Ameca, Tequila, Ixtlahuacán, Ocotlán, Tepatitlán, Lagos de Moreno, Ciudad Guzmán, Autlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Cihuatlán, reaching communities along the Colima border.

This comprehensive coverage ensures that residents across Jalisco have access to vital flood preparedness information, supporting statewide emergency planning and public safety initiatives.

Citizens can access the MUI through any mobile device via Google Maps using the direct link: bit.ly/MUI2025. The platform’s user-friendly interface and mobile optimization make it an essential tool for daily commuting decisions and long-term residential planning.

The success of this digital initiative demonstrates the growing demand for accessible, data-driven public safety resources and highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between government agencies and technology platforms in serving community needs.
