As part of the National Public Security Strategy, 90 members of the Mexican Army’s Special Forces Corps were deployed to Jalisco on Monday, August 5, to strengthen security efforts in key areas, including Puerto Vallarta and Zapopan.
The troops departed from Military Air Base No. 1 in Santa Lucía, State of Mexico, aboard a C-130 Hercules aircraft and landed at Guadalajara’s Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport. Their deployment will be overseen by the 15th Military Zone, based in Zapopan, and the 41st Military Zone, based in Puerto Vallarta.
According to the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), these Special Forces units will conduct joint operations with the National Guard and local authorities. Their objective is to disrupt criminal group activities through patrols, deterrence operations, and preventive actions. All efforts will be carried out in accordance with the National Law on the Use of Force and with full respect for human rights.
The deployment comes amid growing concerns over violence in both urban and tourist zones, prompting the federal government to enhance its security presence in strategic areas across Jalisco.
Sedena emphasized that the arrival of these specialized troops is part of a broader policy to ensure peace and safety for the population. The coordinated effort reflects a commitment to restoring stability in regions facing increased criminal activity and insecurity.
