The state government has unveiled plans for a new pier, “Las Peñas,” to enhance maritime connectivity in Puerto Vallarta. Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro announced the project, which will be located on Chile Street in downtown Vallarta and will require an investment of 430 million pesos.
Governor Lemus explained that while the Los Muertos pier currently serves the southern part of the port, the new Las Peñas pier will provide a vital connection for routes to the northern part of the city. The pier is designed to benefit not only tourists but also locals and workers, serving as a stopover for maritime transport to the city center.
The Las Peñas pier will span 120 meters and feature modern infrastructure, including concrete piles, metal structures, a concrete-slab walkway, and an ornamental canopy made of steel and mesh. Additional amenities include a viewing point with a wooden deck, pedestrian and stage lighting, benches, and signage.
This initiative is part of a broader maritime connectivity plan, which includes the construction of 12 public docks and four private ones, backed by a state investment of over 872 million pesos.
Six public docks are already operational: Quimixto, Punta Pérula, Melaque, Los Muertos, Boca de Tomatlán, and Las Ánimas. The next phase includes new piers in Mismaloya, Yelapa, Chimo, Tehuamixtle Bay, Barra de Navidad, and Las Peñas.
The Las Peñas pier aims to enhance accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike, reinforcing Puerto Vallarta’s position as a key maritime hub.
