A violent weekend in the Ixtapa district of Puerto Vallarta culminated in a fatal shooting early Monday morning, leaving a woman dead and a man injured. This marks the third deadly incident in the area over the weekend, heightening concerns among residents.
Preliminary reports indicate that a flatbed truck driver had picked up the woman from a pharmacy on Ixtapa’s main avenue. Shortly after they departed, unidentified assailants pursued their vehicle, ultimately opening fire. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained gunshot injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Municipal Police arrived quickly, securing the area and notifying the State Prosecutor’s Office, which has launched an investigation. Authorities are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, though the motive for the attack remains unclear.
The incident occurred just meters from the site of a double homicide hours earlier, further alarming local residents. “These violent events happening so close together are deeply concerning,” one resident remarked.
In response, law enforcement has increased patrols in the district and is urging anyone with information to assist in the investigation. Calls for enhanced security measures and a comprehensive approach to addressing the underlying causes of violence have intensified as the community seeks safety and stability.
