The national ruling party Morena deputies have decided to postpone the discussion of the reform that would reduce the work week from 48 to 40 hours, announced deputy Juan Ramiro Robledo.

Ramiro, president of the Constitutional Points Commission, pointed out that this is to go hand in hand with the position of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who asked that more time be given for debate on the reform of constitutional article 123.

He mentioned that the opinion will be discussed in the February session, once more consultation forums have been held by the Political Coordination Board.

He highlighted that the Board of Directors of this commission decided to return the opinion to the Board of Directors of the Chamber, which had asked them to review the text, and to determine if it was possible to add any of the positions that were expressed in the open parliament forums on the reform.

He admitted that the decision to postpone the approval of the opinion has to do with the position of the federal executive.

He said, “Of course it has to do with the Morena Parliamentary Group, what the president thinks, since we belong to the same movement, to the same country project. We have the same vision of promoting better conditions for workers, but Morena is also the government of the country, and has to be very responsible for the decisions.

“What the president thinks and what he does is not divorced from what Morena and the allies do here in the House, of course not. And the legislature of the states and the governments. The states are also immersed in the same political project. Everything must be taken into account between us.”
