The Municipal Council of Urban Development of Puerto Vallarta is reanalyzing the Ameyalco project by order of a judge after the city council ruled that the use of the land is not compatible with development, since it is a mountain.

The Director of Urban Development and Environment of the Municipal Government, Adriana Guzmán Jimenez, said, “Ameyalco is an issue that has been going on for years, and that led to a procedure that was not concluded, which is now in the hands of a court. It has been turned over to this council so that we can analyze it, make an opinion, and send it to the court, and that is what what we are going to do: the information will be analyzed and sent to the judge.”

The Ameyalco project was promoted for the first time in the administration of Salvador González Reséndiz, where it encountered strong opposition from environmentalists and residents in general, for which it was rejected. There was another attempt during the administration of Ramón Guerrero Martínez, but it was also rejected.

The project intends to urbanize 300 hectares of the mountain between the limits of the Ejido El Jorullo and the Ejido Puerto Vallarta (upward from Mismaloya).

The developers propose to build 961 rooms for tourist hotel use, with a capacity for 1,900 people, in addition to 188 cabins with a capacity for 940 people, a total of almost 3,000 people, without counting the employees, and roads would also have to be built to reach the development.

Guzmán continued, “The place where Ameyalco is located is outside the limits of the population center. Let’s say that the limit is where the city is developed. This is a development that is being called rustic with little density, which will have little impact, and may be compatible with uses of natural land. But your project does not manifest those characteristics as the project is described. It does not have an adequate land use for that area. It is invasive for the area. That is the result of the analysis of an entire council.”
