The Secretary of Economic Development (Sedeco) through the General Directorate of Craft Promotion has started two contests for Jalisco artisans, with the aim of preserving the unique techniques and designs of Jalisco crafts
The General Director of Craft Promotion, Margarita Alfaro, recognizes the detailed work of the pieces that the artists make to participate, which in addition to demonstrating Jalisco’s talent, when made known, increase the value of their work.
The Jalisco 2020 Award consists of 10 categories: Traditional, contemporary pottery and ceramics, textiles, hard and semi-hard fibers of animal and vegetable origin, metalwork and glass, carved wood and traditional furniture, stonework and lapidary, jewelry, saddlery, and paper and cardboard innovation.
The total prize pool for this award is 400,000 pesos.
- The overall winner of the Jalisco Award will be awarded 40,000 pesos.
- The first place by category will win 17,000
- The second place by category, 13,000 pesos
- There will be six special prizes of 10,000 pesos for young artisans from 18 to 30 years old.

For the Indigenous Art 2020 Award, the categories are: decorative crafts and toys, pictures made with yarn, suits and clothing, and jewelry.
For this contest, the total prize pool is 200,000 pesos.
- 40,000 pesos for the overall award
- 17,000 pesos, 13,000 pesos, and 10,000 pesos, respectively, for the first three places in each category.

Both contests are available throughout the state for those over 18 years of age with a valid artisan credential from the General Directorate of Artisanal Promotion.
Application and registration of works will continue through September 30, 2020 at the General Directorate of Craft Promotion located in Calzada González Gallo number 20, Colonia Rincón del Agua Azul, Guadalajara from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
