The director of the Vallarta Institute of Culture, Marina de los Santos Álvarez, announced the start of the 68th International Film Festival in Puerto Vallarta, in conjunction with the National Cinematheque, from January 14th to February 7th at the Auditorium of Culture, located in the extreme east of the Isla del Río Cuale.
Admission is free, but space is limited, so it is recommended to arrive 15 minutes prior to the showing, as all health protocols will be in force due to the pandemic. As usual, they will offer complimentary popcorn and coffee.
“We are very excited because, despite all the regrets, the pandemic and others, in culture we have not stopped having projects. We are going to start this month of January with the International Film Festival, with a very large billboard,” said Marina de Los Santos.
“Of course everything changes, spaces are reduced, we advocate for people to understand that space is limited, that they have to be punctual, for the second year entry will be free, and the space completely sanitized,” she said.
Today will begin with two films. The first, “Buñuel en el Laberinto de Las Tortugas”, which is a co-production of Spain and Holland, is an adaptation of the graphic novel by Fermín Solís. It begins at 5 pm, and will be screened again on Friday 15th, at 7 pm.
The work recreates the expedition that the Aragonese director undertook, together with his collaborators, to film the life of the Extremaduran region, building an affectionate and critical portrait of Buñuel.
The other film that will be presented in the first two days is “Vivir su Vida”, produced by France, through twelve vignettes defined by semi-documentary shots of cafes, Parisian boulevards, theater venues, and various literary and filmic appointments. They represent elaborate reflections on life, the irrefutable character of destiny, and the fierce nature of art.
Other films that will be screened in these three weeks are:
- “Al Final Bailamos”, Sweden and Georgia;
- “Joan of Arc”, France,
- “Scars”, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Herzegovina,
- “Piranhas: The Children of the Camorra”, Italy,
- “The Audition”, Germany and France,
- “La Portuguesa”, Portugal,
- “Beanpole: A Great Woman”, Russia,
- “Divino Amor”, Brazil, Uruguay, Denmark, Norway, and Chile,
- “Gloria Mundi”, France and Italy,
- “Until Always, My Son”, China, and
- “Shepherd or Impostor”, Poland and France.
