A taxiing Japan Airlines Boeing 787 collided with a stationary Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning, causing delays for passengers bound for Puerto Vallarta.

The incident occurred at 10:17 a.m. Pacific time when the Japan Airlines aircraft struck the tail section of the Delta plane, which was undergoing de-icing procedures. The Delta aircraft, Flight 1921, was scheduled to depart for Puerto Vallarta with 142 passengers aboard.

Emergency teams responded immediately to the collision site, located between the S Concourse and the airport’s south maintenance hangars. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members, who were safely evacuated from the aircraft.

Delta rescheduled the Puerto Vallarta flight for 3 p.m. Pacific time. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident, while both airlines have pledged full cooperation with authorities.

“The safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our highest priority,” Delta Air Lines stated. Japan Airlines expressed regret over the incident and committed to preventing future occurrences.

The airport continues to operate normally, with officials reviewing safety protocols as a precautionary measure.
